Mid-Term Review of "Upgrading Informal Areas in the Greater Cairo Region Project"

The main purpose of the ex-post evaluation was twofold:

 

·         To assess the efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability and anticipated impact of the programme " Upgrading Informal Areas in the Greater Cairo Region Project" and the prospects for its sustainability, as well as its relevance, 

·         To provide practical recommendations for the follow up actions and lessons learned.


The main objective of the programme “Upgrading Informal Areas in the Greater Cairo Region Project” was to: improve the living conditions of the poor urban population living in 9 deprived informal areas of the GCR by offering better quality services through both public administration and civil society organisations. At the same time, the project improved the environmental conditions in the targeted areas. Finally, the project aimed at improving the capacities of the local authorities and civil society organisations to participate in the discussion, design and implementation of interventions related to urban development.
